About Laura Kenner
I'm a cybersecurity content strategist, a media founder, and the person behind Bootstrap Cyber. I'm also, apparently, someone who needs to explain why she's allowed to have opinions about cybersecurity.
So let's get that out of the way.
I hold a BS in Computer Networking and Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Global Campus, with a focus on cloud security. I earned it at age 50, in an industry that sometimes subtly suggests people like me should be winding down. I also hold CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications and spent two years as an Associate Researcher with the Cloud Security Alliance.
I broke into cyber as a technical marketing specialist, writing technical content and scripting product tours for an audience of engineers and security practitioners who had zero patience for someone who didn't know what they were talking about. That kept me sharp. It still does.
I've since built a career at the intersection of cybersecurity and content strategy. I’m embedded inside early-stage security startups, crafting narratives that resonate with the people who buy and use these tools.
I've worked long enough on the vendor side to know exactly how the machine works. And I've talked to enough practitioners to know they're not impressed.
Bootstrap Cyber Media LLC was created as a media channel for the cybersecurity practitioner who's tired of polished, sanitized, vendor-friendly content and wants someone who calls it straight. A place where the people doing the work are the point of the story.
